Scottish Junior Cup 3rd Round
Saturday 17th November
St Anthonys 1 - 4 Irvine Meadow
(McGuiness 9', Kinniburgh 56', Parker 87', Reeder 90')
Att. 244

The scoreline would suggest Irvine Meadow had it comfortable against their Central League First Division opponents but this was far from true. Two goals in the final three minutes from Keigan Parker and Richard Reeder both getting their first goals for Meadow made the scoreline slightly flattering on Meadow.

Meadow started brightly enough with a goal from Liam McGuiness from close range after a scramble in the box and panic from St Anthonys after only 9 minutes. St Anthonys replied almost straight away with a shot high into the net from just inside the box. Meadow had influential Liam McGuiness injured from a harsh tackle and the Ants were lucky to keep all 11 men on the pitch going into half time. Early in the second half the Ants had a great change to take the lead but could not hit the target. As the rain and hale lashed down St Anthonys went down to ten men as the number 9 who earlier injured McGuiness gave away another hard foul and was duly given a second yellow and sent off. Meadow managed to get in front from Wullie Kinniburgh in 56 mins whose excellent 20 yard strike from a Parker assist sailed into the top right hand corner to make it 2-1 to Meadow. Hamilton then get a rightful second booking for Meadow and now both teams were even with 10 men apiece. St Anthonys had chances at both 1-1 and 2-1 down to score but combination of excellent goalkeeping from Hewitt and poor finishing meant they could never find the second goal and were punished late on with two debut goals in last few minutes. One from a well placed Parker shot from a corner and an excellent header by substitute Reeder from a superb Parker cross in injury time.

Meadow will be happy to go into the 4th Round Round draw and into the next crucial league game with some confidence against Beith at home.

Irvine Meadow 1 - 0 Newmains Utd

Irvine Meadow defeat Newmains Utd by a single goal after a tough encounter with Meadow's Brian Hewitt the man of the match. A goal from Kieron Burns after 5 mins sealed the win but it was far from easy against the Central League Two Division Team and an upset was only avoided thanks to fine goalkeeping from Hewitt! Although Meadow had chance of their own both from corners as well as shots well saved from McLennan and good recovery from Newmains keeper stopped Frank Gibson having a tap in to seal the game.
